Responding to Abuse and Neglect This chapter has been refreshed to ensure consistency with terminology used in current DfE publications, including 'Working together to Safeguard Children' and 'Keeping Children Safe in Education'.
Safeguarding Children where a Parent has a Learning Disability A revised Multi-agency Protocol for Working with Parents with Learning Disabilities Living in Dorset has been added to Local Resources.
Safeguarding Girls and Young Women at Risk of Abuse through Female Genital Mutilation A link has been added to the Further Information section to the FGM Assessment Tool (National FGM Centre), which provides best practice guidance and an online tool to help guide the assessment of cases where FGM is a concern.
Children Missing Education

This chapter has been updated with a new Section 6, Elective Home Education to reflect the updated DfE guidance on Elective Home Education for local authorities.

A new Section 7, Unregistered Schools has also been added.
Escalation Policy

This chapter has been placed in Local Resources but can still be accessed via a link on the contents list.

It is planned that a specifically Pan Dorset chapter will be placed in Local resources in due course.
Safer Recruitment and Employment This chapter has been updated as required. A link has also been added to the Further Information section to the Disqualification under the Children Act 2006.

Child Sexual Abuse in the Family Environment This chapter has been updated to acknowledge that Child Sexual Abuse within the family environment is known also as Intra-familial CSA. Information has been added from the model on CSA used by the Centre of Expertise, describing the impacts of CSA. The Further Information section has also been updated.
Assessment This chapter has been updated to reflect Working Together to Safeguard Children and includes a new Section 10, Contextual Safeguarding.
Child Protection Enquiries This chapter has been updated to reflect Working Together to Safeguard Children.
Child Protection Conferences A new Section 3.4, Multi Agency Attendance at Conference which clarifies issues relating to Quoracy and Chair Person decision making replaced the previous heading 'Conference Quorum'.
Online Safety - Children Exposed to Abuse through the Digital Media This chapter has been refreshed. In Further Information, a link has been added to the Catch 22 publication 'Social Media as a Catalyst and Trigger for Youth Violence'.
Supporting Children and Young People Vulnerable to Violent Extremism A link to 'Prevent Notification to the Safeguarding Referral Unit (SRU)' has been added into the Local Guidance section.
Sexually Harmful Behaviour This chapter has been reviewed and updated to add information with regard to Technology-assisted harmful sexual behaviour (TA-HSB) and Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). The Further Information section has also been reviewed and updated.

Safeguarding Children from Abroad, including Victims of Modern Slavery, Trafficking and Exploitation This chapter has been updated to reflect Care of Unaccompanied Migrant Children and Child Victims of Modern Slavery: statutory guidance for Local Authorities (2017). It replaces 3 previous procedures called: 'Children from Abroad', 'Modern Slavery' and 'Trafficked Children'.
Information Sharing This chapter has been updated throughout in line with the revised versions of Working Together to Safeguard Children and Information Sharing: Advice for Practitioners Providing Safeguarding Services to Children, Young People, Parents and Carers.
Hard to Engage Families A link has been added to 'Survival Guide to Child Protection for Roma Parents' guidance in Local resources
Managing Individuals who Pose a Risk to Children Previously a single chapter, this chapter has now been set out in four parts to help professionals more easily identify what they need. It should be re-read in its entirety.
Allegations Against Staff, Carers and Volunteers Section 3, General Considerations Relating to Allegations Against Staff has been updated to make it clear that in situations where there are either resignations or 'compromise agreements' the duty to refer remains and failure so to do without good reason is an offence.
Safeguarding Practice Reviews This chapter has been updated to reflect the EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018.
Agency Roles and Responsibilities This chapter has been revised to reflect updated guidance for organisations, agencies and individuals to ensure that their functions, and any services that they contract out to others, are carried out with regard to the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children as set out in Chapter 2: Organisations Responsibilities in Working Together to Safeguard Children.
